Atletico Bilbao are reportedly planning an approach to re-sign Ander Herrera from Manchester United. Herrera made 128 appearances for the Spanish outfit between 2011 and 2014.
The Basque player has been a good performer for United since arriving from Bilbao four years ago but his future remains uncertain with his contract expiring in a year’s time.
As such, the tenacious midfielder is attracting interest from ex-club Bilbao, who are willing to make him the highest-paid player in their history to lure him from Old Trafford, AS reports.
Herrera was in-and-out of the starting lineup during the previous campaign and this was partially associated to injuries which hampered his gametime in the backend of the season.
At present, the 28-year-old may find himself as the fourth-choice midfielder behind Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic and Fred next term and the potential arrival of another recruit may urge him to consider his stay.
United have already failed to convince Marouane Fellaini to stay beyond the expiry of his contract this month and they need to act quickly to commit the Spaniard or else there could be a similar saga next summer.
