Manchester United agree £14.1million fee for defender’s transfer

Manchester United are set to part ways with Daley Blind after agreeing on an initial £14.1m for his proposed return to former club Ajax. The Netherlands international has racked nearly 150 appearances during his four seasons at Old Trafford but he has eventually decided to part ways after being used sparingly last season.

Blind started the previous campaign as the first-choice left-back and he featured in the first Premier League games from the off. However, he thereafter struggled to command a regular berth with Ashley Young and Luke Shaw jumping ahead of him in the pecking order and he ended the season with just one more start in the English top-flight.

Since the start of the summer, Blind has been regularly linked with a potential move away from Old Trafford and his departure is now set to become official with United having agreed on a £14.1m sum plus another £4.4m in add-ons for his sale to Ajax, Sky Sports reports.

With Blind’s exit, United have just two senior left-backs in the form of Matteo Darmian and Luke Shaw for their pre-season tour of the United States, given Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young are expected to report late after their World Cup exploits.

There has been speculation of United trying to pursue Alex Sandro from Juventus in recent months but the speculation has taken a fresh twist of late with Paris Saint-Germain deemed to have joined the race for the Brazil international.

  1. That is good news, a bit more money in the coffers to buy another mediocre Mourinho acquisition. It seems as if quality players do not rate him and he cannot improve or work with youth what use is he?
