Manchester United could agree deal with Real Madrid for £175million star: report

According to Mi Otra Liga, Manchester United have been told to pay the release clause of Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane if they want to land his signature this summer.

The £100k-per-week star, who has been a regular in the first-team this season, could be available for transfer if a suitor is willing to pay £175m, says the Express.

Varane joined Real from French side RC Lens in 2011 and has gone on to make 222 appearances in all competitions. The 24-year-old still has more than four years on his deal with Los Blancos too, so president Florentino Perez is no hurry to cash in on the centre-back.

United could pursue him heavily this summer, however, as manager Jose Mourinho is keen to strengthen his defence. Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind are expected to leave the club at the end of the season, while Phil Jones and Chris Smalling could soon struggle command a starting place given their numerous errors made in games.

The Real defender would be United’s most expensive ever signing if they met his release clause. Mourinho wants a stellar centre-back, and one who has won two La Liga titles, one Copa De Rey and three Champions Leagues certainly fits the bill.
