Manchester United have agreed a £35m deal with Benfica for attacking-midfielder Anderson Talisca, according to Turkish journalist Firat Gunayer and Eurosport. The Red Devils have lodged a £35m bid for 24-year-old, and Besiktas manager Senol Gunes has confirmed Talisca will be on his way to the Premier League next season.
“I am sorry that Talisca is gone, he’ll be a competitor to Cenk Tosun in the Premier League. I can’t tell (which club he’s joining), but he could be a rival of Cenk Tosun,” he said. Talisca joined Benfica from Bahia in 2014 and has gone on to make 78 appearances for the Portuguese Primeira Liga club.
The Brazilian attacking-midfielder has spent the last two seasons on loan with Besiktas, scoring and creating 51 goals in 80 games in all competitions. Talisca has been in fine form this season, scoring 14 times in 33 Super Lig outings, but he looks on his way to Old Trafford.
The flies in the face of what United manager Jose Mourinho said when quizzed about the positions he would strengthen this summer, insisting he wouldn’t be bolstering his attacking options as he already had Jesse Lingard, Marcus Rashford, Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez.
As a result, Talisca’s potential arrival could be as a replacement for an existing player. Anthony Martial has been linked with an exit which has gone down badly with supporters, but is United are bringing in another attacking player, they may have to let one go due to the stiff competition for a starting place.
