Manchester United defender Matteo Darmian has reportedly emerged as a loan target for AS Roma this month. The Italy international has fallen out of contention under Jose Mourinho of late, and he has failed to make the matchday squad in the last two matches.
According to The Mirror, the Giallorossi are leading the hunt to sign the former Torino man, who has also been linked with AC Milan and Juventus. Despite the interest, the Capital outfit are said to only prefer a temporary deal for the defender with an obligation for a permanent move at the end of the season.
United secured the services of Darmian for just £13m in the summer of 2015, and the club’s hierarchy could sanction the deal, should the Giallorossi agree to match their £17m valuation for the Italian in five months’ time.
Darmian started the season as the leading deputy for both full-back positions. However, as the season has gone on, the likes of Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw have jumped ahead of him in the pecking order, and his career at Old Trafford is more or less up.
Similarly to Darmian, Daley Blind is also uncertain over his future at the club, but he could stay put for the campaign with Mourinho likely to want the Dutchman to cover up for the absence of Eric Bailly in the central defensive position.
