Manchester United agree personal terms with Benfica forward – report

Manchester United’s summer transfer arrivals are speeding up after the club has agreed a deal with Benfica star Anderson Talisca, according to Turkish newspaper AMK – as reported by talkSPORT. The news comes just a few days after Victor Lindelof’s transfer to United was completed. Anderson Talisca has been on the watch list of United for the last few months. We are believed to have agreed a substantial transfer fee for a player, who has a £22 million release clause in his contract.

Talisca spent last season on loan at Turkish club Besiktas where he was highly influential with 16 goals in 31 appearances. Manchester United appear to have agreed personal terms with the player, despite his Besiktas loan deal still having 12 months to run.

The signing of Talisca would significantly strengthen the offence, which has been weakened by the departure of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Players like Wayne Rooney, Anthony Martial, and, to a certain extent, Jesse Lingard have not been convincing enough. Talisca is a Brazilian under 23 player who is yet to make an appearance for the senior team. While there has been interest from Liverpool, we appear to have made a lot of progress towards completing the signing. Furthermore, Talisca appears keen on playing under Jose Mourinho rather than Jurgen Klopp. He said:

“I cannot deny there is interest but what happens next depends on Benfica and my representatives. There will be news on this soon.

“Look, every player dreams of playing under him [Jose Mourinho]. Mourinho wants me, he has wanted me for a long time and I am an admirer of his work.”

Talisca is one of the several transfer targets for United in the summer transfer window, as Mourinho aims to strengthen the squad substantially in preparation for the Champions League campaign. Aside from being expected to do well in the domestic competitions, Mourinho’s team will start the Champions League campaign with the objective of reaching the semi-finals or beyond.

Benfica were unwilling to part with the Brazilian on a permanent basis, but the young attacking midfielder’s wish to join the Red Devils appears to have set the wheels in motion. If he does come to Old Trafford, Talisca would become the second major acquisition from Benfica after Victor Lindelof’s £31 million move.

Real Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, though, could be the signing to make or break the 2017-18 campaign. After making substantial progress in the first few days of registering an official interest, Manchester United have not made much of a move in terms of signing the 24-year-old from the Spanish club.
