According to the Mirror, Manchester United and Manchester City are in the race for Leicester City defender Harry Maguire. The 24-year-old, who joined the Foxes for £17m last summer, could be on the move for three times that price just 12 months later.
Maguire is reportedly a target for Manchester United, with manager Jose Mourinho looking to bolster his defence. The Red Devils aren’t short at the back, with Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo, Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones as defensive options, but availability has been an issue.
Smalling and Jones are regularly featuring, but Rojo, Lindelof, Bailly and Blind have hardly played for United in recent weeks. Maguire could be the answer to their problems, although he won’t come cheap.
The English international, who’s made three appearances for his country, has been a regular this season. Maguire’s has featured in all 27 of City’s league games, and has a number of clubs after his signature as a result.
Manchester City are rumoured to be suitors, but their record-breaking move for Aymeric Laporte might see them avoid another expensive defensive purchase.
The Sky Blues have John Stones, Vincent Kompany, Nicolas Otamendi and Laporte as options, while Eliaquim Mangala is out on loan, so they have enough choice.
It’s unknown if United would consider such a lofty bid either, however.
Funny thing though…Harry is on a long term deal and we are not of a mind to sell.
