Manchester United in four-way battle to sign French wonderkid: report

According to Footmercato, Manchester United have joined Manchester City in the race for AS Monaco defender Benoit Badiashile. The 16-year-old hasn’t yet signed a professional contract and could subsequently move on for a smaller fee.

Bayern Munich and Barcelona are two more sides also linked with Badiashile, meaning a four-way tussle could ensue for the promising teenager. Joining Monaco from SC Malesherbes, the centre-back has represented France at youth level, and looks to have a bright future ahead of him.

The Metro say Manchester United made an approach for the ex-Limoges FC youngster last summer, but saw their bid bounced back by Monaco and Badiashile. Should he come to Old Trafford, the defender would likely be in the youth sides, developing until he’s pushing for first-team football.

Phil Jones would be a good player for the Frenchman to learn from, as the former Blackburn Rovers centre-back was signed by United as a teenager and is now a regular in the first-team. Luke Shaw also joined as a teen, and has forced his way into the side after a prolonged period being on the periphery.

Nevertheless, United could struggle to bring him to England given the interest in Spain and Germany, let alone from their league rivals, but he could be worth the trouble.
