Man United begin major contract talks with £80,000-a-week star midfielder

According to reports from the Daily Mirror, Manchester United have opened talks with midfielder Marouane Fellaini over a new contract.

Marouane Fellaini has been a very divisive figure among the Manchester United supporters following his arrival to Old Trafford from Everton back in 2013 and while he may not be loved by everyone, manager Jose Mourinho is certainly a huge fan of the towering midfielder.

Mourinho has repeatedly come to the defence of Fellaini whenever he has been criticized by the fans or the media and the 29-year-old remains a key figure in the Portuguese manager’s plans at Old Trafford.

The United boss had recently said of the player, “I have always thought of Fellaini as a player with special qualities. You always want a player like that in your team or squad.”

Therefore, it was no surprise to see Mourinho block Fellaini’s prospective move to Turkish side Galatasaray over the summer and now the Red Devils are said to be looking to extend the Belgian international’s stay with the club.

The ex- Everton man is currently into the final year of his contract at United and according to reports from the Daily Mirror; the Premier League giants have initiated talks with the Mourinho favourite over a new deal. The 29-year-old is earning £80,000-a-week on his current contract.
