According to Mundo Deportivo, Real Madrid have ‘agreed a deal in principle’ for Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski. It’s a blow for Manchester United, as the 29-year-old was linked with a move to Old Trafford before he left Borussia Dortmund for their title rivals in 2014.

Since then, the Polish international has scored over 140 goals in more than 180 games in all competitions for Bayern, winning three Bundesliga titles, the German Cup and the German Supercup. He’s one of the best strikers in Europe which is why the likes of United and Real Madrid have been sniffing around.

He’s contracted with Bayern until 2021 and looks set to win the Bundesliga crown for a fourth time, but Lewandowski is rumoured to be unhappy at the Allianz Arena. Mundo Deportivo state the striker hired Pini Zahavi to be his agent to get him out of Munich and ‘to a side with aspirations’.

With Real Madrid struggling in their pursuit to land Harry Kane from Tottenham and Eden Hazard from Chelsea, Lewandowski could become their main attacking transfer target this summer. He wouldn’t be cheap, however, with the £198k-per-week star valued at around £102m.

Real are desperate for a top-level centre-forward to replace Karim Benzema, while Lewandowski reportedly wants to join an even bigger club in what could be the final move of his career. United can’t compare to Real’s outstanding dominance in Europe – three Champions League wins in the last four seasons.
