Man Utd boost as 29-year-old is ‘keen to move to Old Trafford’, has a plan to push through deal

According to the Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld is ‘keen to move to Old Trafford’ and has a plan to push through a deal.

With the Red Devils having only days remaining of the transfer window to strengthen key areas of the squad, Spurs are demanding around £75m for the Belgian international, so Alderweireld is willing to run his contract down in 2019 and leave on a free transfer if he’s not granted a move this summer.

Tottenham won’t want to lose him for nothing, so they may consider cashing in while he still has value for a lower asking price. It’s good news for United that Alderweireld is trying hard to push through a deal, but Spurs could yet play the long game. If the 29-year-old doesn’t leave in the summer, the winter transfer window could be another opportunity to get some money back.

Signed from Atletico Madrid in 2015, the talented centre-back has gone on to make 109 appearances in all competitions for Tottenham. He’s regarded as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and would certainly improve the backline at Old Trafford.

  1. Bad reporting as next summer spurs could extend by a year meaning the £25m release clause comes into effect, running contract down would mean 2 seasons time 20/21 season…

  2. That’s bullshit, he is contracted for another two season, but at the end of next season he has a £25m buy out clause. He will not leave on a free transfer for at least two more seasons.

  3. Useless pathetic Report. So He has a plan to waste a whole season when he’s nearly 30 to move to Utd. Not only is that statement farcical but he doesn’t leave for free next season either. He can only leave at that point for 25mil. Spurs have an option til beginning of 20/21 season. Call yourself a Sports reporter. Go work on the bins or something.
