Manchester United could reportedly make their best effort to lure Raphael Varane from Real Madrid at the end of the season. The France international has been a solid performer for Los Blancos over the years and he is presently the youngest player to have acquired three Champions League winners’ medals.
According to Don Balon, Varane is likely to end his seven-year association with Los Blancos in the summer, should they decide to pursue a new centre-back to their ranks.
In this case, United are said to have the advantage owing to Mourinho’s former association with Varane whilst they are also prepared to significantly increase his wages on his switch to Old Trafford.
As per Don Balon, Varane is currently valued at around £62m, and this should within the range of United who are expected to strengthen their defensive options ahead of next season.
Nevertheless, United don’t have the best of relationships with Real Madrid since David de Gea’s move to the Bernabeu fell through in 2015 and this could yet hamper an approach for the former Lens graduate.
Manchester United currently have the likes of Eric Bailly, Victor Lindelof, Marcos Rojo, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones and Daley Blind, who can slot into the central defensive positions and any new signing may witness the departure of one of the existing players, most probably Blind.
