Manchester United planning a swoop for Espanyol left-back Aaron Martin, according to reports carried out by ESPN FC.
Manchester United’s squad this season certainly looks very strong in all areas and as a result, many have touted the Red Devils to finally launch a challenge for the Premier League title after years of struggles since the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson.
That said, United boss Jose Mourinho always looks out to improve his squad and it is believed that the Portuguese tactician is actively planning to strengthen the left-back department as the likes of Luke Shaw, Daley Blind, Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young have not been able to make the position their own.
Shaw had been touted as the long-term solution at left-back for United but with the Englishman failing to impress, the Red Devils are said to be looking to offload the ex-Southampton man and find a replacement.
Now according to reports from ESPN FC, claims have been made that United have eyed up a swoop for Espanyol defender Aaron Martin and are closely monitoring the 20-year-old over a potential move next summer or even during the January transfer window.
The report states that Espanyol will demand Martin’s full €40million (£36million) buyout clause before letting him leave, which is certainly a high fee for such a young player and in addition, United will have to fight off competition from rivals Manchester City in order to land the services of the Spaniard.
