Manchester United Champions League squad for CSKA Moscow, Matic and Bailly included

Eric Bailly and Nemanja Matic are part of the Manchester United squad who will make the 2000-mile trip to Russia to take on CSKA Moscow in the Champions League.

The Red Devils began their European campaign with a comfortable 3-0 victory over Basel last weekend, but the trip to CSKA is likely to be trickier due to the long-distance travel.

According to The Manchester Evening News, Jose Mourinho was spotted with 19 other players on their flight to Moscow – with Marouane Fellaini and Paul Pogba notable absentees.

Fellaini is out with a knock sustained in the 1-0 triumph over Southampton last weekend, while the extent of Pogba’s hamstring is yet to be revealed with further scans scheduled later in the week.

Apart from the pair, Michael Carrick, Phil Jones and Antonio Valencia have also not made the trip with the latter’s right-back position likely to be occupied by Ashley Young once more.

Mourinho has previously hinted that he could persist with the central defensive pairing of Chris Smalling and Victor Lindelof in the Champions League, and it may well be the case with Eric Bailly starting on the bench.

Both CSKA and Manchester United are on three points in Group A and a victory would put the Red Devils clear at the top – ahead of their Benfica trip following the international break.
