Manchester United are reportedly close to pursuing the services of goalkeeper Lee Grant on a free transfer from Stoke City. The 35-year-old has been with the Potters over the past two seasons but he is likely to be released ahead of securing a move to Old Trafford.
According to Sky Sports News, United are on the cusp of securing the signing of Grant with a medical scheduled for the shot-stopper this week. Should things go as planned, the former Derby County man is expected to act as United’s third-choice keeper behind David de Gea and Sergio Romero with Joel Pereira likely to be loaned out for the campaign.
Pereira has been highly-rated by manager Jose Mourinho after making his first-team debut for United during the backend of the 2016/17 season. However, he has since been on the periphery of the squad with just one substitute appearance to note and a temporary stint away from Old Trafford would no doubt do good to his progress.
United are due to depart for their pre-season tour of the United States in the next fortnight and Romero is likely to act as the first-choice keeper with Grant acting as his deputy. De Gea, who recently suffered the disappointed of being knocked of the World Cup with Spain, is due to join the squad after a three-week break.
