According to The Times, Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea could be close to agreeing a new deal to extend his stay at Old Trafford past 2019.
The 27-year-old, who joined United from Atletico Madrid in 2011, signed a four-year deal in 2015 which will expire in less than 18 months. De Gea has made over 300 appearances for the Red Devils in the last seven years but his future was previously in doubt.
He nearly joined Real Madrid in 2015 before committing his future and signing a new deal but history has come to repeating itself three years on. Real Madrid are again keen on the Spanish international as they search for a long-term replacement for Keylor Navas, who turns 32 later this year.
Manchester United have insisted they want to keep De Gea despite interest in his signature, and they appear close to convincing him to sign another extension. The £100m goalkeeper recently stated his happiness to be at Old Trafford and he’s been in fantastic form this season too.
He’s kept 15 clean sheets in 27 Premier League games, with Jose Mourinho’s side currently second in the table. Real might well make another approach at the end of the season, but it looks like they’ll be disappointed.
