Manchester United closing in on 22-year-old World Cup poster boy

According to The Sun, Manchester United are closing on in CSKA Moscow midfielder Aleksandr Golovin.

Manager Jose Mourinho is believed to have scouted the 22-year-old when he was playing for Russia against Austria on Wednesday night and could make the playmaker a replacement for Juan Mata, whose Old Trafford future is uncertain this summer.

Golovin rose through the youth ranks to the CSKA Moscow first-team in 2015 and has gone on to make 113 appearances in all competitions.

The midfielder was a regular in the CSKA side that finished second in the Russian Premier League to Lokomotiv Moscow and may be open to a move to truly reach his potential.

He’d bring goals to the United side, contributing 10 goals in 31 games in the league and Europa League last season, but he’s also a hard-worker and not afraid to put challenges in when necessary.

Golovin is a Mourinho-type of signing, as he possesses both the creativity of a playmaker and the combative qualities of a quintessential English midfielder.

The Russian international, who has 18 caps for his country, wouldn’t break the bank either. The Sun say he’s available for just £15m so United might not wait any longer to try and bring him to Old Trafford.
