Manchester United have confirmed a deal has been agreed for goalkeeper Dean Henderson. The 21-year-old has signed a two-year contract to stay at Old Trafford and should be in the first-team next season. Henderson’s coming off the back of an impressive loan spell at Shrewsbury and will be hoping to make his senior debut in 2018/19.
The England u21 international has stiff competition for playing time in the first-team, with David De Gea and Sergio Romero currently the first and second-choice goalkeepers for Jose Mourinho, but his outstanding campaign at the New Meadow proved he has the potential to become a mainstay in his own right.
He made 38 appearances in League One for Town last season, conceding only 32 goals and keeping an impressive 14 clean sheets. The Shrews finished third in the division and reached the playoff final but lost to Rotherham. Despite this, Henderson can take a lot of positives from last season as he looks to continue developing.
If he’s promoted to the first-team as expected next season, he’ll need game time. It’s no good for Henderson to be warming the bench in 2018/19, especially after showcasing his ability on loan.
