Manchester United confirm new deal agreed for midfielder Dion McGhee




Manchester United confirm they have agreed a first professional deal for midfielder Dion McGhee. The 17-year-old made 13 appearances for the u18s last season and could be one for the future.

McGhee follows in the footsteps of teammates Brandon Williams, Ethan Galbraith and James Garner, all of whom signed professional deals in recent weeks.

He revealed his delighted to MUTV, saying: “It’s a proud moment for me and my family. I’m really happy to get the contract signed. I’ve worked hard and listened to my coaches, listening to the advice and just enjoying what I do.

 “My family and my coaches have helped me kick on and improved me as a person. (United have) the best facilities in the country. What a place and what a club Manchester United is.”

 McGhee will take inspiration from the rise of Scott McTominay who made the successful transition from youth player to the first-team and made 13 Premier League appearances last season, earning a first Scotland cap for his troubles.

Jesse Lingard and Marcus Rashford will also be inspiration for the 17-year-old, as the English pair racked up 3633 minutes of Premier League and are both in the England squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

United take pride in blooding through youngsters to senior level, and seeing McTominay, Lingard and Rashford in the squad is evidence of that. McGhee is a creative midfielder who can play in the No.10 role, but he has some way to go before he’s getting the nod by Jose Mourinho.

  1. We can sign any talent in the world, we can buy the most attractive and offensive players, as long as Mou is in charge we will be looking forward to boring games and frustrated players. Mr Woodward start with a long term vison in the UNITED-spirit. You can not buy the premier league title or the Cmapions League Cup.
