Manchester United consider £20m bid for Barcelona defender

Manchester United are reportedly considering launching a £20m bid for former defender Gerard Pique, now at Barcelona in the January transfer window as Louis Van Gaal looks to re-enforce his defence after the signings of Luke Shaw and Marcos Rojo in the summer.

The 27-year-old, who spent four years of his senior career at Old Trafford before moving to Camp Nou in 2008 for just £5m, has struggled for regular game time under Barca coach Luis Enrique having only made five La Liga appearances for Barca this season so far..

According to the Daily Star, United are confident that they can convince Pique to return to the North-West of England to play in the Theatre of Dreams with a bumper salary and the offer of regular first-team football.

Earlier this month, Pique insisted that he wants to stay at Barcelona, but admitted that “you never know what the future holds”.
