According to The Sun, Manchester United are interested in Sevilla defender Clement Lenglet and could agree a deal worth £20m for his signature this summer. The 22-year-old, who has also been linked with Barcelona, is highly-rated and could be on his way to Old Trafford as manager Jose Mourinho could let Phil Jones and Chris Smalling leave.
Lenglet joined Sevilla from AS Nancy in January 2017 and has gone on to make more than 60 appearances in all competitions for the La Liga side. The French u21 international has been a regular at the back this season, playing in 49 games in La Liga, the Champions League and Copa Del Rey, but he has an uncertain future at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium.
Barcelona and United could go head-to-head for the defender’s signature at the end of the season, with the Catalan giants worried they could lose Samuel Umtiti due to a contract dispute, while the Red Devils are considering an overhaul of their backline. Lenglet may cost significantly more than £20m as a result of all the interest.
In addition to being impressed by the centre-back as Sevilla knocked United out of the Champions League in March, United are believed to have sent scouts to watch the centre-back in Spain this season. Barca’s interest could prove a stumbling block, however.
