According to RMC Sport, Manchester United are interested in Napoli defender Faouzi Ghoulam, as Jose Mourinho continues his search for a long-term replacement for Ashley Young.
With Luke Shaw’s future uncertain and the English international potentially on his way out this summer, United are in desperate need of at least one fullback capable of playing on the left.
Ghoulam joined Napoli from French Ligue 1 side AS Saint-Etienne in 2014 and has gone on to make over 150 appearances in all competitions. The 27-year-old is valued at around £26m and has impressed in 2017/18 before his season was cut short through injury.
He has four more years on his contract so Napoli are in no rush to sell, but United could force their hand with the right bid as they could be short at left-back at the end of the season – Young and Shaw are entering the last year of their respective deals.
The former turns 33 in July too so he’s days as a first-team left wing-back appear numbered. Shaw has made just six Premier League starts this season and has Everton, Tottenham, Leicester and Chelsea linked with his signature. Ghoulam could be the perfect option and wouldn’t break the bank either.
