According to Bild, Manchester United could agree a deal with FC Augsburg for Philipp Max. The 24-year-old is regarded as one of the best left-backs in the Bundesliga and would provide more creativity and an attacking threat to the United side if they were to meet his £35m asking price.
Max joined Augsburg from Karlsruher SC in 2015 and has gone on to make 91 appearances in all competitions. The German international was at his best last season, contributing 14 goals in 33 Bundesliga games and has put himself on the radar from many big clubs in Europe.
United manager Jose Mourinho is shopping for a left-back this summer, as Ashley Young and Luke Shaw may not be at Old Trafford in 2019. Young will turn 33 in July and has only 12 months left on his contract at Old Trafford, while Shaw has struggled for playing time, fallen out with Mourinho and is also in the last year of his contract.
Max could be a replacement for the pair and may be open to a move to Old Trafford given his Augsburg side finished 12th in the Bundesliga last season. United were Premier League runners-up in 2017/18 with the second-best defensive record (28 goals conceded from 38 games).
