Manchester United could agree £35m deal for 24-year-old midfielder

According to Don Balon, Manchester United are planning to launch a bid for AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho, as Jose Mourinho looks to strengthen his midfield, reports talkSPORT.

The 24-year-old has been an ever-present for Monaco this season, making 19 Ligue 1 appearances, scoring and creating five goals. Rather than being a creative and goalscoring midfielder, the Brazilian is a combative player who would provide competition for Nemanja Matic.

With Ander Herrera having struggled for form and playing time, United need a commanding influence who can help shore up their backline and ensure the midfield dominate their opponents. Fabinho is a good option, and for £35m he wouldn’t break the bank either.

The Monaco man boasts a tackle and interception every 20 minutes in Ligue 1, averaging 60 passes with an 87.1% completion ratio this season. Fabinho made his intentions to leave the French club clear in December last year, which is good news for Manchester United.

However, Jose Mourinho’s side aren’t the only team in the race for the midfielder. TalkSPORT says Juventus and Atletico Madrid are keen on the Monaco man, but the selling club might not be keen to part with a such a valuable asset mid-way through the campaign.

Nevertheless, it appears United could test Monaco’s hand with a bid, meaning there could be new developments in the coming days.
