According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United could agree a £50m deal with Leicester City for Harry Maguire, with manager Jose Mourinho considering replacing Chris Smalling and Phil Jones, two players who were below Maguire in the pecking order for England at the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The City centre-back has shone for the Three Lions this summer, helping Gareth Southgate’s men reach the semi-final. He kept Smalling and Jones out of the national team starting eleven during the group stages and knockout rounds of the World Cup and could now replace the pair at club level.
United are reportedly keen on Maguire but they don’t have much time to land his signature with the summer transfer window closing in just over three weeks. The 25-year-old has only spent one year at Leicester, arriving at the King Power Stadium from Hull City last summer and went on to make 44 appearances in all competitions in his debut season.
His form helped Leicester finish ninth in the Premier League in 2017/18 but he could be plying his trade elsewhere next season. United are overstocked with defensive options – Smalling, Jones, Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly, Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind – but Maguire has shown he can play at the highest level.
They missed a zero off!
Harry is not for sale…3 years on his contract to run.
Players only leave Leicester when the club is ready to let it happen.
If that signining of Magurie could happen it will help the Red for longtime than Toby
is a gud move 4 henry maguire bcos of is age i saw him in d worldcup performing well bt let players like smalling, jones and blind leave d club
Mourinho to replace Smalling and Jones, now he acts. Fans have known before Mourinho took over that the pair needed an up grade, at best they were tolerable (when on the bench and treatment table) on the field they were dreadful. Perhaps the fans should take over the managers role they seem to more than the present one.
