According to ESPN, Manchester United are considering an approach for Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon. The talented left-sided star, who was recently nominated for the PFA Young Player of the Year award, could be on the move for £50m and United hope to beat Tottenham Hotspur to his signature.
United are shopping for an attacking left-back this summer as Ashley Young and Luke Shaw are out of contract in 2019 and are expected to leave the club. Young turns 33 in July and isn’t a natural in defence, he’s been made to adapt as Shaw has struggled for playing time.
The 22-year-old has only made seven Premier League appearances and has had a public fallout with manager Jose Mourinho over how he conducts himself in training and in games. If he’s sold and Young leaves at the end of his contract, the Red Devils will be desperate to bring in a replacement. Enter Sessegnon.
The Fulham teenager has risen through the youth ranks to the first-team at the age of 16 and could be on the move from Craven Cottage this summer. He’s worth £50m to Fulham, who could be in the top flight next season as they’re currently in the promotion hunt in the Championship.
Sessegnon has been a standout performer, scoring and creating 21 goals in 44 league outings for the Cottagers, while being named Championship Player of the Year. Tottenham are very keen on his signature, so United might be forced into a bidding war at the end of the campaign.
