According to the Express, Manchester United could still agree a deal for Real Madrid forward Gareth Bale, if the 28-year-old isn’t happy with who is appointed Zinedine Zidane’s successor. Bale recently made it clear he could exit the Santiago Bernabeu in pursuit of more first-team football, but his decision could instead be based on which head coach comes through the door.
Signed from Tottenham Hotspur in 2013, the Welsh international has gone on to make 189 appearances for Los Blancos in all competitions. Bale has won four Champions League trophies, one Liga title and one Copa Del Rey, while contributing 147 goals for his troubles, but his future has been in doubt in the last 12 months.
The £90million star had been left out of important Champions League games under Zidane this season, being named on the bench in four of his last five appearances in the competition. He was an unused substitute on two occasions in the knockouts too. Such treatment from the ex-head coach led to him considering a move away from Real, but he might not be so open to an exit.
The former Southampton man will get a fresh slate with the new Real manager, meaning he has a chance of becoming a first-team regular again if he can impress, so United might be left wanting. Jose Mourinho could be lining up a replacement for Anthony Martial this summer, with the Frenchman looking on his way out of Old Trafford after falling out of favour with the manager.
Man Utd should at least sign 5 professional players before the league start.
