Man Utd are on the verge of signing Barcelona midfielder — Report

According to The Sun, Manchester United are on the verge of signing Barcelona’s midfielder Nico Gonzalez ‘if he decides to leave’ Barcelona this summer. The Catalan giants are struggling to agree a new deal with the 16-year-old which could mean United capitalise on the situation and bring him to Old Trafford.

Gonzalez looked set to captain Barcelona’s Juvenil A side next season before United scout David Harrison got involved. He has a good relationship with the midfielder and could be key to the Red Devils bringing the teenager to England. If he agreed a deal with the Manchester giants, Gonzalez would likely slot straight into the u18 side.

Mourinho has strengthened his midfield ahead of the new season, bringing in Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk and agreeing a new deal for Marouane Fellaini. Couple that with Paul Pogba, Scott McTominay, Ander Herrera and Nemanja Matic and United have an impressive engine room for the likes of Gonzalez to look up to.

It will likely be many years until he’s at a position to feature in the senior squad, but there is a clear pathway from youth football to the first-team. McTominay proved it last season, making 13 Premier League appearances, while Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard’s rise to prominence is further evidence.
