According to Don Balon, Manchester United are interested in Chelsea left-back Marcos Alonso, with the future of Luke Shaw being uncertain. Manager Jose Mourinho has been linked with a host of left-backs this season and could be willing to pay up to £70m to land the 27-year-old’s signature.
The report states that United view the Spaniard as the best left-back in the Premier League which is why they’re considering such a lofty bid to bring him to Old Trafford. Alonso joined Chelsea from Fiorentina in 2016, winning the league title in his first season.
The £90k-per-week man has made over 70 appearances in all competitions for Chelsea and is one of the first names on the teamsheet under manager Antonio Conte. Alonso seems content at Chelsea and hasn’t made any public claims of wanting to leave, which is bad news for United, although money could talk.
His current deal has three years to run but United could offer him a significant improvement on £90k-a-week. Don Balon say Mourinho has asked the United hierarchy to make the Spaniard an offer he can’t refuse.
With makeshift left-back Ashley Young turning 33 in July and Luke Shaw reportedly wanting out of the club, the Red Devils need an adequate replacement.
