Manchester United could agree deal with Real Madrid for 24-year-old

According to Cadena Cope, Manchester United could agree a deal with Real Madrid for Mateo Kovacic this summer. The 24-year-old recently revealed he wants to leave Los Blancos after struggling for playing time under Zinedine Zidane. United, AS Roma and Juventus are among the interested parties.

Kovacic joined Real from Inter Milan in 2015 and has gone on to make 109 appearances in all competitions. The Croatian international, who has racked up 43 caps for his country, has won three Champions League trophies, one Liga title and one Copa Del Rey at Real, but it appears he’s ready for a new challenge.

The box-to-box midfielder was used sparingly last season, making only 10 starts in La Liga and four in the Champions League. Kovacic was substituted on or substitute off in 30 of his 36 appearances across the board in 2017/18 so he’s seeking a move to a club who can offer him more minutes on the pitch.

United recently signed Fred from Shakhtar Donetsk, but they appear to be in the market for another central midfielder. Michael Carrick has already been replaced by the aforementioned Brazilian international, but Marouane Fellaini could be on his way out of Old Trafford too this summer, so Kovacic could be his replacement.
