Manchester United crumble out of Champions League – Changes required

UCL Trophy

Since 2011, Manchester United have only won two Champions League KO ties and they crumbled out of the competition at Old Trafford this time around.

Before this defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid, Diego Simeone’s side had never knocked out a team (in the European Cup) that had Cristiano Ronaldo.

However, the Portugal superstar was absolutely dismal in the second leg and failed to register even a single shot on target. The Rojiblancos deserved to go through and for the fifth year in a row, United will end the season without any trophy.

Next up, Man Utd will play Leicester City in the Premier League next month. In case you want to punt on the fixture, you can check out few of the best sports gambling sites at BetStation.

It will be fair to say that they need to win their remaining nine games to have a strong chance of qualifying for the next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Major changes are required in the summer. Record signing Paul Pogba will be out of contract and must be replaced in the center of the park.

If we fail to qualify for the European Cup, I doubt Cristiano Ronaldo will stay at Old Trafford and it will be hard to attract any top striker to replace him as well. Still, we will need a quality No.9 for next season.

We may need to improve the quality and depth of the attacking midfield with players like Martial, Rashford, Lingard and Mata expected to leave the club this summer.

In the central defense, Harry Maguire should not only be stripped off captaincy but the most expensive defender must be sold in the summer. A solid player must be lured to partner Raphael Varane in the central defense.

Last but not the least, we need a world class manager. After the defeat against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League, Paul Scholes rightly pointed out and United need a coach that strikes fears into the players.

In your opinion, who should Man Utd appoint in the managerial hot-seat for next season?
