Man United dealt blow in pursuit of 21-year-old, Mourinho may have to wait until 2019

According to Football.London, Manchester United may have to wait until 2019 before they can sign AS Roma forward Cengiz Under. The 21-year-old joined the Italian Serie A giants from Basaksehir last summer and has impressed at the Stadio Olimpico. The Turkish international has contributed 10 goals in 32 games for Roma and has attracted a lot of interest as a result.

The report says United, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City were the three clubs most heavily involved, but neither stands a chance at procuring his signature it seems. Roma have no desire to let Under leave so soon after joining, although they may change their mind at the end of next season.

While a blow, United have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing right-back Diogo Dalot from FC Porto as a long-term replacement for Antonio Valencia and Fred rom Shakhtar Donetsk to replace Michael Carrick. Lee Grant was brought in from Stoke City to provide cover between the sticks in case David De Gea and Sergio Romero succumb to injury, so Mourinho has pulled off some decent business so far.

He’s not short of attackers either – Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku, Anthony Martial, Alexis Sanchez, Juan Mata, Marcus Rashford – so it’s unlikely the Manchester giants will be too cut up about the news.
