According to The Sun, Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof is planning talks with manager Jose Mourinho amid fears over his long-term future at Old Trafford. The Swedish international, who signed from Benfica last summer, has struggled for form at United and could be replaced ahead of next season.
Lindelof has made just 10 Premier League appearances for the Red Devils this season and has found himself taken out of the first-team as a result of poor performances. Eric Bailly, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones have instead been preferred in the backline, which raises questions over Lindelof’s future.
The 23-year-old set United back over £30m but has made just three league starts since October. Mourinho clearly doesn’t trust him in the defence, and talks are planned between the two people to clarify where his future lies. The lack of playing time could force him out of the club.
With Tottenham Hotspur defender Toby Alderweireld reportedly a target for United, coupled with the Manchester giants being linked with a host of other centre-backs, Lindelof could be one of the players to be cast aside. It wouldn’t be a surprise if his time at Old Trafford was cut short after just one season.
