Manchester United are reportedly leading the race to sign Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann after the Spanish lodged an official complaint against Barcelona for an illegal approach for the France international.
According to The Mirror, Atleti could restrict Griezmann’s move to Barcelona in the future after club president Josep Bartomeu personally met the player’s family to discuss a potential switch to the Camp Nou.
As a result, the Capital outfit have lodged a complaint with FIFA over ‘tapping up’ their main forward, and this has seemingly put United in the front seat to pursue the Frenchman next summer, as per The Mirror.
Griezmann flirted with the possibility of joining United during the previous transfer window, and it is suggested that Atleti would prefer selling the attacker abroad rather than listening from their rivals which include Real Madrid.
The former Real Sociedad man has been a huge admirer of David Beckham during his early days, and his potential move to Old Trafford would see him play alongside compatriot Paul Pogba, with whom he holds a good relationship on and off the field.
Griezmann currently has an £88m(€100m) release clause in his contract which lasts until the summer of 2022.
