According to ESPN, Manchester United have enquired about Bayern Munich playmaker Thiago Alcantara. The 27-year-old has been linked with a move away from the Allianz Arena this summer, but Sporting Director Hasan Salihamidzic has ruled out a move.
Despite having Marouane Fellaini, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera, Paul Pogba, Fred and Scott McTominay in midfield, manager Jose Mourinho is being linked with another player for the engine, although Thiago won’t come cheap – the Spanish international has a £62m asking price.
Thiago joined Bayern from Barcelona in 2013 and has gone on to make 153 appearances in all competitions, scoring and creating 52 goals. He’s won five Bundesliga titles and two DFB-Pokal trophies but has suffered a number of injuries which has limited his time on the pitch.
United aren’t the only side interested. Chelsea are reportedly keen on his signature, but Jorginho arriving from Napoli might stop them from actually lodging a bid. Bayern have no intention of selling Thiago either. He has a fantastic range of passing and great composure on the ball. With Arturo Vidal also being linked with an exit, selling Thiago makes little sense.
Mourinho might have to look elsewhere.
