This is why Manchester United are favourites to lift the FA Cup — Rio Ferdinand

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand believes Jose Mourinho’s side are likely to have the edge over Chelsea in the FA Cup final on Saturday owing to their recent experience of winning cup finals.

During Mourinho’s first season in charge, United claimed success in the Community Shield, League Cup and the Europa League and two of those finals were contested at the Wembley Stadium.

As such, Ferdinand fancies a repeat performance against the Blues with Mourinho having an excellent success rate in the finals of different competitions, he said: “The experience of last year’s Manchester United team in winning two cup finals will put them in a good place.”

The Portuguese’s style of play has come under criticism from a section of the fans over the course of the season but there has nevertheless been a genuine sign of improvement with just one defeat against the top-six in 2018.

Moreover, Mourinho has guided his former clubs to success in 12 of the 14 finals he has managed, and the 55-year-old will be fancying another shot at glory against his ex-employers, who come off an average season. Chelsea failed to win any of their last two Premier League matches as they finished fifth in the standings.
