Manchester United could reportedly have a free run to sign Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic after Juventus baulked at his €45m asking price. The Serbia international is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer after he was left out of the Blues’ pre-season of China and Singapore.
Matic, 28, played a key role alongside N’Golo Kante in the Blues’ midfield last season as they celebrated their fifth Premier League title – the first under the management of Antonio Conte.
The Serbian midfielder has been continuously linked with a move to Old Trafford during this summer’s transfer window and reports at one stage suggested that he had finalised personal terms with the Red Devils.
According to Corriere dello Sport h/t Metro, the Red Devils could retain their interest in Matic with Juventus no longer in the hunt for the central midfielder.
The Serie A champions have been reluctant to come close to the Blues’ valuation, and they have now shifted their attention towards Liverpool’s Emre Can, who is being valued at around €25m
Jose Mourinho had recently highlighted that he would like to sign at least more player in the transfer window, and Matic could emerge as the top option with a deal for Ivan Perisic still far off.
Perisic was initially tipped to arrive at United prior to their pre-season tour, but he has instead linked up with Inter Milan with China with the club reluctant to lower his £48m price tag.
Chelsea are indeed desperate to get Matic off their books this summer, and Mourinho will no doubt have the Serbian on his radar due to his valuable Premier League experience.
