Manchester United are reportedly deemed as front-runners to pursue the signature of Luka Modric from Real Madrid at the end of the season. The Croatia international has been with Los Blancos since the summer of 2012, and he has gone onto to win one La Liga title and three Champions League crowns during this period.
According to The Express, the 32-year-old could be shown the exit door at the Bernabeu in the summer with Los Blancos’ hierarchy eyeing an overhaul of the squad due to their lacklustre defence of their La Liga title.
The report adds that United could emerge as the main contenders to pursue the experienced footballer as they prepare to lose the services of both Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini at the conclusion of the current campaign.
Carrick has decided to hang up his boots to join Jose Mourinho’s coaching staff from next season whilst Fellaini has apparently agreed on a pre-contract with Besiktas ahead of a Bosman move during this summer’s transfer window.
€500m(£443) midfielder is well known for his concentration powers in addition to his excellent distribution skills, and the Croatian could be seen as the perfect fit in a three-man midfield, where he can maintain his position whilst allowing a player of Paul Pogba’s calibre to push forward.
