French forward Anthony Martial was named Manchester United’s Player of the Month for January, and left a message to the supporters who voted him over nominees Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The former AS Monaco attacker, who joined United in 2015, scored and created five goals in as many games in January. His tally this season is nine goals and four assists from 14 Premier League starts, contributing 18 goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.

To win the monthly award for January, Martial fired a late effort in a 2-0 win over Everton on New Year’s Day, grabbed an assist in a 2-0 FA Cup win against Derby County, scored and created a goal in a 3-0 league win over Stoke City and bagged the winner in a 1-0 victory at Burnley.

“I feel really good at the moment, I’m training hard and, to be fair, with the matches and results since the new year, we’ve made a decent start, so I hope we can continue in the same vein,” said the 22-year-old to MUTV.

“It’s a real honour for me that the supporters have voted for me. I think now it’s the third time it’s happened this season. I just hope I can keep this run going and maybe even try and win a few more of them!”

Martial has extra competition for a starting place following the signing of ex-Arsenal and Chile forward Alexis Sanchez, but his Player of the Month award is recognition from fans for his performances.

The French international was given just 13 minutes in Saturday’s win against Huddersfield Town, but he’ll be hoping for more game time to come.
