Manchester United have not strengthened their central defense as yet. The Red Devils conceded goals on regular basis in the last campaign and Solskjaer needs to act fast and lure a top quality center half this summer.
According to a report covered by Mundo Deportivo, Man United have asked about French international and Barcelona star Samuel Umtiti.
The Spanish source have claimed that the player wants to stay at the Nou Camp and fight for his place in the next campaign. However, the Catalan giants are worried about his on-going knee concern.
Transfer: Man Utd’s chances of signing £58million star have really increased
The former Lyon defender featured in 6 out 7 games in the World Cup 2018 to help France lift the trophy but, as far as his club career is concerned, his injury record does not look good at all (Transfermarkt).
In the last campaign, he missed 28 games due a knee injury and even warmed the bench after returning to fitness because Barca started to prefer Lenglet.
As a Manchester United supporter, I am definitely disappointed at the moment. We were linked with a top quality center half like Matthijs de Ligt but now reports suggest that the Dutch international has agreed terms to join Italian champions Juventus (The Guardian).
On the other hand, United have also been interested in Harry Maguire, who has consistently improved since moving to Leicester City but now, as per reports (Mirror Sport), we have left the race to hire the services of the England international because the Foxes are demanding a mammoth fee of £100million for their prized asset.
So, now United are linked with Umtiti. We need a leader to command our defense, someone who is ever-present and therefore, an injury prone central defender like the Les Bleus star is not needed.
The 25-year-old’s current contract with the Spanish champions will expire in 2023 and as reported by Marca last month, he is valued at around 40 million euros (£36million).
In your view, should United splash the cash to sign Umtiti?
How can any serious club go for an injury prone player?
Things are really getting out of hand at Man U no thanks to a lack lustre official like Woodward. Sack him!
Absolutely not. He’s not wanted by Barcelona for a reason; it’s like buying a second-hand car – you never know what problems are inherent. I advocate getting Kabak. At 19 and inexpensive in today’s market he is already good with potential to be one of the best. Alternative is Ruben Dias. Also young but proven and perhaps costly.
It’s a no brainer. The fella is injury prone. ManUnited need a new experience, reliable and not injury prone to lead the defence. Forget about Umtiti. Go look somewhere else…
