Man Utd could agree deal with PSG for 25-year-old, agent in talks over Old Trafford switch

Verratti

According to Calciomercato, Manchester United could agree a deal with Paris Saint-Germain for Marco Verratti. The 25-year-old has already got off on the wrong foot with new manager Thomas Tuchel, with the former Borussia Dortmund boss telling the midfielder to lose weight. Verratti’s agent, Mino Raiola, has held talks with United over a potential move this summer.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Juventus are three other clubs believed to have held met with Raiola. Calciomercato say Barca aren’t interested in the Italian international, Real are ‘leaving the door open’, Juventus are ‘waiting’ and United are ‘evaluating’.

With Michael Carrick having retired and Marouane Fellaini looking on his way out of Old Trafford, the Red Devils need a replacement in the middle of the park. Fred joined from Shakhtar to provide more steel and defensive protection, but Verratti’s expertise is in transition. He’s able to create chances from deep-lying positions and can carry the ball into the final third.

In Ligue 1 last season, the 25-year-old averaged 93 passes-per-game with PSG, while creating 28 chances in 22 appearances. He also made 42 successful dribbles. United have a strong midfield to take into next season – Fred, Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Ander Herrera – but Verratti would be the icing on the cake.
