Manchester United informed to pay £70million to sign top defender: report

Milan Skriniar Inter Milan

According to Gazzetta dello Sport via Sport Witness, Manchester United have had a bid rejected for Inter Milan defender Milan Skriniar. The 23-year-old only joined from Sampdoria last summer, but he’s made a big impact and is already considered to be one of their star players.

United manager Jose Mourinho has been trying to bolster his defence all summer as Daley Blind and Marcos Rojo could be shown the exit door while Victor Lindelof underperformed in his debut season. The Red Devils have been linked with Tottenham Hotspur’s Toby Alderweireld, Barcelona’s Samuel Umtiti and Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane to no avail.

Skriniar is a player they’ve been interested in for some time but Inter have no desire to sell the centre-back for less than they believe he’s worth. United’s £57.5m bid was turned down for the Slovakian international. Inter reportedly want £70m on the table before they’ll consider getting into discussions, which would earn them a 400% profit on what they paid to sign him in 2017.

That’s not to say the defender isn’t worth the money, however. Skriniar made 40 appearances for Inter last season and made a big impression at the San Siro. His future is uncertain as a result but he does still have four years remaining on his deal.
