Man United have one obstacle preventing them signing Bayern’s 30-year-old star

Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their pursuit of Bayern Munich midfielder Arturo Vidal, with Serie A rivals AC Milan and Inter Milan having entered the race for his signature, reports Tuttosport.

The 30-year-old has less than 18 months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena and there’s been no progress made about a potential extension. Bayern recently agreed a deal for Schalke’s Leon Goretzka, who could push Vidal out of the side next season, so the Chilean international is weighing up his options.

Manchester United and Chelsea have been linked with his signature, but the report says the Premier League duo are behind Milan and Inter who contacted Vidal’s representatives early to boost their hopes of signing him this summer. TalkSPORT say the midfielder is open to a move to Italy too.

It’s a blow for United manager Jose Mourinho as his side could be short in midfield ahead of the new season. Michael Carrick is retiring, Marouane Fellaini is out of contract at the end of the campaign, Ander Herrera has been linked with a move to Milan and Paul Pogba has interest from Real Madrid.

Nevertheless, it appears the £134k-per-week star may not be coming to the Premier League, meaning the Red Devils will have to cast their eye over other targets.
