According to the Daily Record, Manchester United are interested in Celtic defender Kieran Tierney to replace the out-of-favour Luke Shaw.
The 20-year-old has risen through the Celtic ranks from youth level to the first-team, making over 120 appearances for the senior side, which has led to a lot of interest in his signature. United are one of many Premier League clubs linked with Tierney and a £20m summer move could be on the cards as a result.
United manager Jose Mourinho is actively searching for a left-back, having lost faith in Shaw. Ashley Young has been a regular in the defence despite turning 33 in four months, but he only has another year left on his deal, so the Red Devils need to find a younger alternative for the long-term.
Tierney has won two Scottish Premiership titles, two League Cups and one Scottish Cup with Celtic and is one of the first names on the teamsheet under Brendan Rodgers – 48 appearances in all competitions this season. United scouts are reportedly pleased with his development and have ‘pushed his name’ to be signed by the club.
Shaw could be moved on this summer to make way for a new arrival, with Everton and Tottenham being linked with the English international.
Where is this “£20 million” nonsense coming from? Celtic wouldn’t even open any level of negotiation unless the starting bid was at least double that.
The fee is moot anyway as KT doesn’t want to leave.
