Manchester United identify £40m-rated wonderkid as Luke Shaw’s replacement

Manchester United are reportedly keeping a close watch on the performances of Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon as they seek to find a potential replacement for Luke Shaw.

Shaw was publicly criticised by Jose Mourinho once more following the FA Cup win over Brighton last weekend, and the 22-year-old now appears on course to leave United during the summer.

According to The Sun, the search for a replacement may have already begun with manager Jose Mourinho said to have sent talent-spotters to watch Sessegnon in action in recent weeks.

The 17-year-old has had a tremendous season in the Championship this term with 14 goals and a further five assists, and this saw him named the EFL Player of the Year for the 2017/2018 season.

Most of Sessegnon’s success in 2018 has come from him switching from left-back to a left-wing position, but the £40m-rated teenager is still said to be the prime target to replace Shaw, who is likely to end his Old Trafford association.

Tottenham Hotspur’s Danny Rose has also been linked with a potential move to Manchester, but as per an Old Trafford insider, Sessegnon has been earmarked as the leading target for the left-back position.

Ashley Young has obviously cemented his spot as the first-choice on the left side of the defence, and Sessegnon could be seen as a long-term successor, whilst he receives valuable gametime in the Cup competition next term.
