Manchester United identify £89million replacement for David De Gea: report

According to Don Balon, Manchester United are lining up an £89m bid for Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen, with the future of David De Gea still uncertain.

The 25-year-old joined Barca in 2014 and has gone on to make more than 120 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish outfit. He’s made 18 caps for the German national team and is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in Europe. It’s hard to see Barcelona letting him go, let alone without a replacement.

However, the Daily Star believe United are willing to pay an astronomical amount of money to land his signature as Real Madrid could swoop in for their own goalkeeper. De Gea’s future at Old Trafford has been speculated about for some time, with Real having a long-term interest in the 27-year-old, but United have made it clear he’s not for sale.

The links with ter Stegen may well be as insurance should the worst happen with De Gea, but Barcelona don’t have a reason to let ter Stegen go this summer. The goalkeeper may not be keen to leave the Catalans either, so United may struggle recruiting him as a potential replacement, even if they do pay £89m.
