According to RAI Sport, Manchester United are considering a bid for Napoli midfielder Jorginho, as manager Jose Mourinho eyes up a replacement for Michael Carrick and Marouane Fellaini.
Jorginho joined Napoli from Hellas Verona in 2014, and has become one of the best deep-lying players in Serie A. The Brazilian-born defensive midfielder has made a total of 144 appearances for Napoli, while representing the Italian national team on three occasions, and has reportedly held talks with Manchester United over a potential move this month.
The Express state Mourinho could be losing two midfielders from the side in the summer, with Carrick retiring and Fellaini having rejected a contract to stay at Old Trafford for another season. Ander Herrera has struggled for form which has cost him a starting place, and the United manager is a big fan of Jorginho.
The 26-year-old has made 18 Serie A appearances this season. He would provide greater protection to the defence, while also retaining possession. He’s likely to be expensive, however, as his contract doesn’t expire until 2020. Napoli aren’t in any rush to sell him, nor would they appear keen to let a key player leave without time to find an adequate replacement.
Jorginho was signed for £8.5m four years ago, but he’s worth around £40m now. Time is running out if United want to make an official approach.
Mourinho is absolutely right when he makes such analysis of his team’s performance. As one of the world’s best football managers, Mourinho knows best what is good for Man United FC. Hence, let all United fans give him their strong backing in other to take the club at another level.
