According to The Sun, Manchester United are planning a £92m swoop for World Cup stars Ante Rebic and Ivan Perisic, with manager Jose Mourinho targeting the midfield duo to bolster his squad this summer.
Rebic spent last season on loan with Eintracht Frankfurt from Fiorentina and made the deal permanent, but United are said to be keen on procuring the 24-year-old’s signature.
Fellow Croatian international Perisic has been linked with the Red Devils for some time. The 29-year-old joined Inter Milan from Vfl Wolfsburg in 2015 and has gone on to make 118 appearances in all competitions.
Both players shone for their country during the 2018 World Cup in Russia, as Croatia reached the final after beating England in the semis. They didn’t win, but they captured the imagine of supporters worldwide and significantly boosted their reputation to boot.
Mourinho isn’t short of attacking options, with Juan Mata, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Romelu Lukaku and Alexis Sanchez in the squad, but he’s been outspoken in his desire to sign Perisic and admitted he didn’t know why the player didn’t push through a move to Old Trafford previously.
Whether the Red Devils pay more than £90m for the two wide-men this summer remains to be seen, but Perisic is still clearly on their shortlist.
