Man Utd in ‘advanced talks’ for 29-year-old, Mourinho chasing long-term target

Ivan Perisic Inter Milan

According to reports from France, Manchester United are in ‘advanced talks’ with Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic. The 29-year-old has been a long-term target for Jose Mourinho and has impressed for Croatia at the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer. Perisic has been linked with a move away from Inter for some time but he’s been at the Serie A club for three years and counting.

Signed from Vfl Wolfsburg in 2015, the winger has gone on to make 118 appearances in all competitions for Inter, scoring and creating 60 goals. Perisic is a good player who would improve the United squad, but he’s not getting any younger. The Croatian international, who has scored 20 goals in 72 games for his country, will turn 30 in February next year and may not have many more years of service ahead of him.

Known for the ease in which he beats his opponent in a one-on-one and can score or create a goal, Perisic is a talented player but one who has already peaked in the football world and could endure a steady decline in the coming years. It’s hard to see United making such a short-term signing for a lofty asking price.
