According to reports in France, Manchester United have held talks with the agent of midfielder Adrien Rabiot who is reportedly ‘considering leaving Paris Saint-Germain’ this summer. The 23-year-old’s representative, mother Veronique, has spoken to a number of European giants to find a destination for her client – United, Barcelona, Juventus and Manchester City.
Frenchman Rabiot failed to make Didier Deschamps’ 23-man squad for the 2018 World Cup in Russia and withdrew himself from the reserve list which led to him receiving widespread criticism. With N’Golo Kante, Paul Pogba, Blaise Matuidi and Corentin Tolisso ahead of him in the pecking order, Rabiot has a tough task of dethroning his competition.
He was a regular for PSG last season, making 50 appearances in all competitions, but was substituted on and substituted off 22 times. Despite spending six years at the Parc des Princes, Rabiot still hasn’t risen to prominence and finds his place in the side more expendable than the likes of Marco Verratti and Angel Di Maria.
United are in the market for a cultured midfielder who seldom relinquishes possession as they’ve lost Michael Carrick to retirement, but manager Jose Mourinho might be spoilt for choice with Marouane Fellaini, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Pogba and Ander Herrera in the squad.
